Philip S. Shailer has a background of accomplishment in law, business, and public service. 

Philip was born and raised in Connecticut, and he attended the prestigious Choate-Rosemary Hall Preparation School.  He subsequently graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Economics.

After a two-year stint on active duty with the United States Marine Corps, Phil entered law school at Duke University and graduated in 1965.  While there, he met and married a Duke nursing student, Midge Anderson, who also graduated that year.  They moved directly to Fort Lauderdale, and he began practicing law following his admission to the Florida Bar that summer.  They have three children, four grandchildren, and continue to reside in Fort Lauderdale.

During the course of his long legal career, Phil has engaged in private practice with emphasis on commercial, police liability, and real estate litigation.  He served as General and Special Counsel to four Broward County sheriffs, as well as, Special Counsel to several municipalities.  He served as City Attorney for the City of Fort Lauderdale and was elected both Public Defender and State Attorney of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.

Phil’s accomplishments are not limited to law and public service.  For ten years, Phil served as Executive Vice President of Alamo Rent-A-Car.

Phil Shailer is a Certified Circuit Civil Mediator and Qualified Arbitrator.  His extensive background has equipped him to mediate and arbitrate a wide range of civil cases, as well as, serve as Special Magistrate.
